Authorities say a former Georgia city clerk has been charged for unlawfully obtaining at least $5,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
WRDW-TV reported on Tuesday that court documents signed by U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine say former Grovetown city clerk Vicky Capetillo is charged with several offenses, including federal program theft and money laundering.
The documents say Capetillo knowingly deposited at least three different checks between August 2014 and August 2015 with the intent to disguise the nature, source, ownership, and control of the proceeds.
Capetillo could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison for the charges. It is unclear if she has a lawyer.
Grovetown is located around 11 miles west of Augusta.
